Richard Finch: Sunshine Band Sex Offender

Richard Finch was born January 23^rd, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is most notable for having played bass in KC and the Sunshine band, having written multiple hits with Harry Wayne Casey, including the shake your booty song.

On March 23^rd, 2010, Finch was arrested for sexual contact with a 17 year old male. According an article from CBS news, the victim told police that he had had sexual contact with him at Finch’s home in Newark, Ohio. 
 

During this time period, Finch had a home recording studio where he worked with “young aspiring musicians”. The victims ended up being regulars that were at the studio. He would tell the victims that they “would need to be prepared for such activity if they sought success in the music industry”. In other words, he was grooming his victims and brainwashing them that abuse was the only way to gain success. 

 

At the time, Finch was 56 years old. Finch’s website at the time stated that the allegations were baseless, though police stated that Finch admitted to having sex with underage boys. The website stated, “We will let due process happen through the legal system," reads the statement. "We are sure Mr. Finch will be vindicated from these unfounded allegations.”. 

 

His bond was set to 500,000 dollars, and the judge ordered Finch not to have contact with the alleged victims or anyone under 18 years old at the time. Finch’s lawyer asked for the bond to be lowered, but it is unknown if that that ever happened. He was later held in Licking County Jail. 

 

There were several charges against Finch, one being the aforementioned sex with a minor, while the others consisted of sexual imposition. During trial, Finch was reported was as acting contrite, or guilty, of his actions, while also claiming that drinking prevented him from having remembered the events (despite having admitted to the events to police in the past). 

 

Finch told the judge that he “took responsibility 100%” and “regretted the way his musical legacy is tarnished by stupidity while under the influence of alcohol”. 

 

Eventually, Richard Finch was sentenced to 7 years in prison, and having to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years of his life. He later wrote letters to his victims in apology, and stated, “It is my own fault and I will work hard to regain trust and respect from those I let down, including myself.”.

Eventually, Finch was released on March 13^th, 2017. But apparently in April of 2019, he was in violation of parole for involvement with a minor male, and is now back in prison, this time serving in Belmont Correctional Institution. Allegedly his release date is January 4^th, 2020.

Nick Catanese was born June 2, 1971. He was the rhythm guitarist for Black Label Society until 2013. While in the band, he was nicknamed as, ‘The Evil Twin”, since he was able to keep up with bandmate Zakk Wylde. 

 

In January of 2018, he plead guilty to unlawful contact, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children in Pennsylvania. At the time, he was 46. Catanese was an instructor at the School of Rock Castle Shannon, and was caught sending sexually explicit messages to a 14 year old student over instagram. He requested nude pictures of the student, while also having sent pictures of his genitals, along with messages describing sex acts. Catanese’s username was ‘dreviltwin13’ on the app, of which the profile has since been deleted, or is at least unsearchable. 

 

An affidavit was issued after the School’s owner alerted the police. When the affidavit was issued, Catanese was already fired, as there had been an incident with another female student. Judge Donna Jo McDaniel sentenced Catanese to five years of probation, avoid contact with minors, have no access to computers with internet capabilities, and to register as a Megan’s law offender for 25 years. Megan’s law is a US federal law that requires people convicted of sex crimes against children to notify the local law enforcement of any changes in their address or employment.

Tripp Eisen: The Static-X Sex Offender

Tripp Eisen, born Tod Rex Salvador, was born June 29^th, 1965. He has played in various bands such as Murderdolls, Dope, and most notably, Static-X.

Eisen’s first band Dope was formed in 1997, with the band being signed to Sony in 1998. The band toured after the release of their 1999 album ‘Felons and Revolutionaries’, where he eventually met Wayne Static and Joey Jordison. Eisen and Jordison bonded over their ‘mutual love’ of bands like The Ramones and Manowar.

During this same time period, Static-X reached popularity with their first album ‘Wisconsin Death Trip’, and toured heavily promoting it. After the tour was over, original guitarist Koichi Fukuda left the band, to be replaced with Eisen.

On February 10^th, 2005, Eisen was arrested for “one felony count of crimes against children”. It was reported that he was found sleeping in a parked car with an underage female that he had just had intercourse with. He was later taken into custody with $100,000 bail of which he made several hours later. He was 39 at the time.

On February 24^th of that same year, he was arrested again on charges of kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, luring to entice a minor through the Internet and endangering the welfare of a child. He allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl from Sayreville, New Jersey that he met through "Find-a-Freek," an online community on Fetischmusic .com. His username was ‘groveryodadata’.

Eisen’s online profile lied about his age and identity, where he stated that he was 31 years old (he was 39), and was a fan of Static-X that looked like himself. He also touted to being Republican with a PhD with an interest in meeting people of all educational levels, including "elementary" school.

Eisen exchanged emails with the young girl, eventually agreeing to meet her at a mall on January 7 of that year. When he met the girl, he drove around with her being having “consensual” sex. Later, the girl’s mother reported the incident to the authorities. 

 

Once the rest of Static-X found out about Eisen’s crimes, they kicked him out and replaced with original guitarist Fukuda.

In June of 2005, Eisen plead guilty through plea bargain to his crime in California (the first offense that happened in that year), and was sentenced to a year in prison. His defense counsel claimed that the plaintiff’s “credibility was shaky. She told people she was anywhere from 14 to 19. She told a cop one age, a detective another, Eisen another. She met him at an 18-and-older club, so she either had a fake ID or lied to the bouncers. We weakened the prosecution's case, but really, Eisen had a reasonable, good-faith belief that she was an adult “.

He spent February through September of 2005 in prison.

Later that year, he had to go to New Jersey for his arraignment on the second charges. Somewhere in between this time, he was incarcerated in New Jersey.

Later, on April 17, 2007, Eisen was released from the Mid-State Correctional Facility, but was back in jail December 10^th, 2008 for a parole violation, and later released on October 19^th, 2009.

In an interview with Totally Driven Radio, Eisen stated about his crimes:

“Horrible judgment. What happened to me was really bad judgment, terrible mistakes that I made, and I paid a price for ’em.”

Karl Logan: Manowar Guitarist Arrested for Child Pornography

Karl Mojaleski, aka Karl Logan, was born on April 28^th, 1965 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. From 1994 to 2018, he was a guitarist for the band Manowar. At the age of 54, he was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, for six counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Logan’s warrants stated that he was in possession of several videos that depicted girls from the ages of 4-12 years of age “engaged in sexual acts with unidentified men”. Each video has been described as graphic.

For the local area, the felony charge of this nature is defined as, “A person... knowing the character or content of the material... possesses material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity."

The warrant for Logan’s arrest was made in August of 2018, where he was eventually booked into the local jail. A person from the Charlott-Mecklenburg Police Department stated the arrest information “likely came to light because of a reporter’s inquiry into the case.”. Logan’s bail was set to 35,000 dollars, which he eventually was bonded out for.

Logan’s attorney, Brad Smith, stated that Logan was “extremely cooperative with the investigation from the beginning, and he’ll continue to do that.”.


A few days after the arrest, Manowar stated that Logan would no longer play with the group, nor be on their farewell tour, which started in February of 2019. 

 
It is currently unknown how long Logan engaged in these activities, how the authorities caught wind to investigate him, or what his final sentencing will be.

Roy Estrada, The Musician, The Sex Offender

I have been a fan of The Mothers of Invention and Frank Zappa's music for way over ten years. I have loved Frank's music ever since I was a young teen, and have seen his son Dweezil play his music live. One thing that Zappa is known for is having a large discography, and an ever larger library of musicians that have worked with him.

One musician in particular has lead a not so pure life though; that man is Roy Estrada. One night while reading on wikipedia I came across his page article and was shocked to find that he sexually assaulted people, multiple times. It seemed like a dirty piece of history that was brushed away to me, and I had to find out more.

Roy Ralph Estrada was born on April 17th, 1943. Not much is known about his life before he became a musician, other than him being born in California.

Estrada is most known for having worked with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. He appears on Freak Out! through Weasels Ripped My Flesh, then Zoot Allures to FZ:OZ.
According to the Texas Sex Offender Registry, Estrada was convicted three times, in three different states. 

The first time was in Colorado, for what is listed as sexual assault of a child. The disposition date is listed as October 27th, 1977. The Judgement for this offense is listed as 1DOTHER.

The second time was in December of 1994. The disposition date is 12/9/1994. Estrada was convicted of committing lewd acts with a child in Orange County, CA, and served six years in prison. 

In January of 2012, Estrada plead guilty to sexual abuse of a female less than 14 years old. The offense happened in March of 2008.

Apparently, the victim's family was "unaware" that he was a convicted sex offender, despite the previous two sentences. 


 He went with a plea bargain agreement and was sentenced to 25 years in prison, without parole. Estrada was convicted on January 23rd, 2012 in Tarrant County, which is the Fort Worth area.

His release date is June 1st, 2036 of which if he makes it that long, he would be 93 years old. Currently, he is incarcerated in Pack I, or Pack facility in Navasota, Texas. Interestingly enough, he is allowed visitation.
